Rafael J. Valdes focuses his international practice in the areas of commercial litigation, financial fraud and asset recovery. He represents court-appointed liquidators, receivers, trustees and foreign office holders in complex litigation matters pending in both state and federal courts. Prior to joining Astigarraga Davis, Valdes worked in Chicago, Illinois for a large international law firm where he represented distressed companies in all phases of corporate restructurings, including primarily Chapter 11 proceedings and bankruptcy related litigation.
After graduating from Berkeley with a degree in Political Science, Valdes worked for Wells Fargo & Co. in San Francisco, California where he completed a management training program in their Corporate Controller’s Division. He then attended the University of Illinois College of Law on a full-tuition scholarship as a Lincoln Scholar. While in law school Valdes served as a member and Symposium Editor of the University of Illinois Law Review and participated in the Duberstein Bankruptcy Moot Court Competition. He also served as summer clerk to the Honorable Gill S. Freeman in the 11th Judicial Circuit Court, Miami-Dade County, Florida. |
