Elena M. Marlow is a shareholder at Astigarraga Davis. Her practice focuses on international litigation and arbitration.
Marlow has extensive international commercial arbitration experience, and has represented both U.S. and Latin American corporate clients in a variety of complex, business-related disputes. She has handled substantial arbitration matters, including disputes involving sophisticated telecommunications transactions, construction and operation of power-generation facilities, and a variety of distributorship, manufacturing and other trade-related agreements.
Being fully bilingual, Marlow can advocate in both English and Spanish, and serves as counsel in Spanish-language arbitration proceedings. Given her language proficiency and experience with legal issues in the region, Marlow regularly oversees the work of local counsel in Latin America, identifying legal issues, reviewing documentary and testimonial evidence, and drafting and editing substantive Spanish-language legal submissions.
Marlow also has significant experience in both state and federal courts. In the course of her career, she has served as a trial attorney handling an active criminal caseload, and also as a lawyer advising the judiciary in both the state and federal court systems.
Marlow graduated with honors from the University of Washington School of Law, and earned her undergraduate degree with honors at the University of California at Berkeley. She completed a full year of course study at the University of Madrid, and earned the highest regional score when she took the Florida Bar Exam.
Marlow is admitted to practice in the State of Florida, the State of Washington, and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
In addition to her practice, Marlow is active in a variety of professional organizations. As the Multi-Jurisdictional Vice-Chair of the International Litigation and Arbitration Committee of the International Section of the Florida Bar, and as the founding member of an ad hoc working group on multi-jurisdictional practice, she has been a leader in drafting changes to the Florida Bar Rules that will permit unrestricted practice by foreign attorneys in international arbitration proceedings conducted in Florida.
