Jenelle E. La Chuisa focuses her practice at Astigarraga Davis in international commercial litigation and arbitration. She represents foreign and U.S. corporate clients in a variety of commercial contract disputes, including recent actions arising out of joint venture, commercial loan, purchase and sale, and fashion design agreements. La Chuisa has handled complex litigation on behalf of national and international insurance companies, real estate developers, contractors, a state agency, and individuals, at both the trial and appellate court levels, involving insurance coverage, construction, real estate, legal malpractice and breach of contract law. Her representative cases include: Restaurant Collection, Inc. v. Certain Underwriters at Lloyds, 954 So.2d 1177 (Fla. 3d DCA 2007) (affirming final summary judgment of no coverage for claims of intentional discrimination under commercial general liability policy); and Essex Ins. Co. v. Danielle Auto Center, Inc., Case No.: 04-582 AP (Fla. 11th Jud. Cir. 2005, App. Div.) (reversing final judgment against insurer where trial court entered judgment without first permitting insurer to answer and defend the allegations of the complaint).
She earned her juris doctor from St. Thomas University School of Law where she graduated with honors and served on the Law Review Board as Senior Articles Editor. While a law student, she tried asylum cases as a Certified Legal Intern at the Law School’s Immigration Clinic, worked as a Contracts Law tutor for first-year law students, and was a Florida Bar Foundation Fellow, selected to intern at the Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center.
Originally from Rochester, New York, La Chuisa earned her B.A. from the University of Rochester, where she graduated with honors as a Spanish major and English minor. As an undergraduate, she lived in Granada and Madrid, Spain, where she continued her studies in Spanish language, literature, art, and culture and traveled extensively throughout Europe. While living in Madrid, Spain, La Chuisa interned as a translator for a major European ecological group.
She is a member of the Appellate Practice Section and Young Lawyers Division of the Florida Bar, as well as Florida Association of Women Lawyers. Since 2003, she has served as a pro bono attorney for Lawyers for Children America, Inc. and has represented abused and neglected children in Miami-Dade County, Florida. In recognition of her pro bono contributions, in 2005 she was the recipient of John Edward Smith Award for Child Advocacy.
La Chuisa is admitted to practice before all Florida state courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida.
