Douglas J. Giuliano focuses his practice on commercial litigation and arbitration.
Having been born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and having lived there for several years, he is a native speaker of Portuguese and is also proficient in Spanish. He has been involved on a variety of matters at the trial and appellate stages of both state and federal courts, including financial fraud, employment discrimination, and franchise disputes. Douglas also works in the field of arbitration. Athlete's Foot Brands, LLC v. Turner Phase IV, LLC, 581 F. Supp. 2d 1250 (S.D. Fla. 2008), is his most recent published opinion.
His latest cover article, Parochialism in Arbitration? How Some Arbitration Decisions by Florida Courts Are at Variance With Federal Arbitration Precedent, was featured in the February 2007 issue of The Florida Bar Journal. Additional published works he has authored or co-authored include an extensively documented law review article, Mixed-Dust Pneumoconiosis: The Next Asbestos, or Much Ado About Nothing?, which was part of the inaugural issue of the FIU Law Review (Fall 2006), an article entitled The Hunt for Federal Court: Removing International Cases (co-author), which was featured on the cover of the Fall 2005 issue of the ABA publication The International Litigation Quarterly, two case notes on the ABA Litigation Section Web site, and the article Contractual Waiver of Personal jurisdiction Under F.S. §685.102: The Long-Arm Statute's Little-Known Cousin, 80 Fla. Bar J. 5 (May 2006) (co-author).
Douglas graduated summa cum laude from Troy University in Troy, Alabama, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. He then attended the Florida International University College of Law as part of its inaugural class, where he made Dean's List every semester and graduated cum laude as one of the top 5 students. During his last year of law school, he worked as a law clerk at Astigarraga Davis and also served as Managing Editor of the FIU Law Review.
Appointed Assistant Editor of The International Litigation Quarterly, Douglas is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of Florida and all Florida state courts. He is also a member of the American Bar Association, Dade County Bar Association, Dade County Defense Bar Association, and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
